Leadership Coaching | Public Speaking and Hosting

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHAT YOU DO, AND HOW DID YOU BECOME AN EXECUTIVE COACH, SPEAKER AND HOST?

I have always known a lot of people from various backgrounds since I was a kid.  I never understood why I was able to be with such a wide range of people yet, when putting them in the same room either hosting or in a meeting, they in turn would not all gel together.

Later in life, I realized I had the power to see commonalities and synergies between people, so I turned into a connector.  Getting certified as a professional coach in 2011, gave me additional tools to deepen that “super-power”.  When there is a collaboration or team dynamic challenge, I am the go-to person in my coaching community.

The first 10 years of my career were spent in the headquarters of the fashion industry.  Many of my colleagues were getting promoted before me. I thought to “make it” you had to keep your head down, do good work and conform to the rules to be noticed, rewarded and promoted… eventually.  Sounds like a good thing to do right?  To add context, picture a bi-racial woman who never felt she really fit anywhere for most of her life.  I knew how to blend in socially, culturally and professionally.  The perfect little worker!

I was really struggling with what was wrong with me. Why to progress as a woman, be seen and heard, you had to be a “b****”, turn on your catty side with the gender you identify with, and bat your lashes to people in higher positions.  I hated it.  This “concept” kept reinforcing that the way to move up, was an insult to our intelligence. At that point, I thought it was impossible to be yourself, shine your brain, make it, spread body positivity and be respected by all genders.

Little did I know then that speaking up, being confident and grounded in who you are, asking for what you want and being self-aware were some of the few good things I needed to add in my toolbox.  These tools are part of my own practices and rituals as a coach, so that I stay sharp in my skills and keep redefining myself as the world evolves.

It is not until I worked for a company with a controlling boss, that the quality of my toolbox was put to the test.  At that point in my development stage of my now coaching career, I was overly confident of my skills, so I thought I had this.  At first, he presented himself kindly and “guru like” to his new staff members and saw me as a leader for the community.  I quickly was given what I asked for; opportunities to shine.  My toolbox worked!

Unfortunately, his darker side showed up quickly too.  Thankfully, since we can’t do for ourselves what we do for others, I had my mentor to help me hear myself out, get my thoughts together, reinvent, stay focused and keep moving ahead.

The world has a hard time with women who stand up for themselves, but WE are the world too.  We are needed and welcomed.

Sadly, it took working for this person to show me another ingredient I was missing to go even further. External awareness.  It is not enough to be empathetic, own your mistakes and read people well, you HAVE TO be able to read your environment and understand how YOU impact that environment by who you are being.  Regardless of personality types, you can connect many dots in group dynamics much quicker with that tool, and be more effective in your leadership.

Just THAT, combined to my previous discoveries, redefined everything in my trajectory.  I would no longer be the “perfect little worker” or the “overly empathetic human”.

From that moment on, I decided I only wanted to coach and work with healthy leaders with both smarts and hearts, so they become the trend in organizations and me in turn, practice modeling one as well. This is one of the reasons why I am the person you need, to be able to identify the blind spots in various dimensions of your leadership.

Coaching over a thousand clients and being a senior coach and trainer for a performance management firm demonstrated that I had a unique perspective on human behavior, that my foundation was sound and that consistent maintenance and redefinition of it was necessary and priceless.

And, even though I work with all genders because I stand for humanity, I have a mission to contribute at making this world an all-inclusive one. Out of a group of 10 leaders, there always is about 1 or 2 women in the mix. I want for these career and professional women of all color, race, sexual orientation and background to be mentors, guides and inspiration for the next generations.  They (We!) MUST continue to blaze the trail.

You do not have to fit in and conform to feel you belong or progress.  You only have to be YOU, deal with mindsets stopping you with smart, strategic and continuously evolving influential toolbox.  And I, provide the tool sharpener you need.

WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS?

I work with leaders just like you in both profit and non-profit organizations who are moving away from a “top down” culture to a collaborative one. They are experts in their roles and understand that continuous soft skills (leadership) development enhances their expertise and makes them shine in front of colleagues, employees and bosses.

They also understand that what makes them successful, is not what will keep them successful with the changes of today and tomorrow.

My clients want fulfilling careers and leave companies better than they found it.  Many of them are not afraid to look within for what they can do to innovate, make positive change and contribute to making this world a better world.

Whether you are looking to brush up on your communication style to deal with your team better, get more buy in when commanding the room with your leadership presence or increase your influence in your community inside and outside of work, I’ve got you covered. You will find yourself working less hard and perform better!

This is for you if you are ready to call the shots, amplify your voice and take actions on how your future is going to go.

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COACHES?

I love that question because I am often told that I bring a unique perspective on human behavior.  I do not pretend to have all the answers.  In a world where anyone can call themselves coaches, my clients tell me they got to experience how much more impactful it is working with a certified one like me.

My coaching style is a blend of ontological, humanist, goal focused, value based, systemic and brain based.  My approach is active listening, self-reflective and context creation.

My ability to synthetize and simplify problems makes it so much easier for you to see, digest and implement change.  Being open minded, engaging and interested in human potential allows me to get along with everyone and identify similarities between people who cross my path.  My clients never feel they are out of place when working with me, as I offer every single one of them the space to safely explore both their pretty and not so pretty hidden, current and new ways of being.

My partner affectionately calls me the brain surgeon without a scalpel.  I love to dissect and go at the core of a thought, which leads me to the discovery of what is hiding behind every behavior.  I do not believe in one size fits all, which is reflected in the flexibility of my style that is also subtly rigorous and structured.  This side of me sparked my interest in applied neuroscience and brain health, which I am currently pursuing.  This means that you are in really good hands with me when it comes to untangling your mind, boiling it down to what really is in your way, and explaining why you do what you do has been kept in place.

I am also well known for my positive energy, deep insights and empathy.

I am concerned about how to get you ahead faster, align your core values with your desired or current position, read people and your environment better, reduce conflicts, be excited/motivated about working on yourself, and become influential with increased confidence in your skills.

The best part is that working with me feels like we simply had a stimulating, enlightening and productive conversation together.

All these ingredients create the safest space you can get, to rise to the next version of yourself.

WHAT TYPE OF PERSONALITY DO YOU WORK BEST WITH AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME?

Redefine your leadership style one-on-one coaching, workshops and programs were created for people who are committed and absolutely interested in continuous development, curious about discovering new blind spots and/or how to overcome them.  They are motivated in becoming an influential leader in their communities or to simply be seen, heard and respected.

This can translate into:

  • Moving away from “top down” cultures to a collaborative one
  • Becoming mentors, guides and inspirations for the next generations
  • Embracing and celebrating their individual talents as part of a whole

Being an insatiable learner myself, I am known to work best with other insatiable learners, people who are interested in expanding their courage zone, who are curious about or want to fall in love with their metacognition, knowing that it is something you can never do enough when you are stuck or ready to get to new levels of your leadership.

I also work really well with people who have done a lot of self-development and want to increase the quality of all the tools they’ve accumulated throughout the years.

You will be expected to be responsible for your own participation in coaching and for your own well-being.  Your results will be proportionate to the level of commitment to your own development.

FOR WHAT TYPE OF PROFESSIONALS ARE YOUR PROGRAMS NOT GOING TO WORK?

Redefine your leadership style is NOT for those who are looking for a guru.  It’s been my experience that people who put me on a pedestal, although flattering for my ego, are in it for the wrong reasons. The reason being that they typically are in search of the next best thing that will save or fix them.  Instead of digging deep, self-reflect and integrate, they will look at everything that is wrong with them and the process, and justify how they can’t ultimately be helped by anyone after all.

The issue with this is that there is actually nothing wrong with that, even though it feels that way.

It’s also not for you if you want a step by step guide to upgrade yourself. The human mind does not work that way.  Our current blocks and breakthroughs are not linear and are in fact, interconnected with various (if not all) aspects of our lives.  My programs and trainings are designed to put words on things you couldn’t put words on before – so getting there won’t feel logical to you and that’s the point.  It just works.

If you fall within these categories, it’s absolutely OK. We’ve all been craving at one time or another to find someone outside of us who holds the answers or secretly wish there was a magic formula.

Do yourself (2) favors:

1.Find a book that can inform you further or solves the challenge(s) you are looking to overcome.  This will help you identify solutions that work and do not work for you. Once you start seeing that your book pile is increasing on a topic and STILL are dealing with the same issue(s), let’s discuss your takeaway and find ways to implement what you’ve learned from them and personalize it in a way that works FOR you. Here are some great reads:

2. Join my Facebook group “Forward Women”, even if you do not identify as a woman.  This group is a platform designed for guides, mentors and inspirations for the next generation of leaders, and celebrating individuality as part of a whole.  It will give you a community of leaders to engage with, and the content I share will give you food for thoughts on what areas your leadership needs redefined, until you are ready to work with me or refer me to someone.

Doing these two things will really help you get primed for our work. When you’re ready, call me and we’ll get you started. (I’m in no rush and will be here when you need me.)

Another type of personality I won’t work with (without exception) is the chronic skeptic.  Coaching is not about convincing you that it works. You have to be open and willing to jump into different ways of being, doing, thinking and seeing.  If you recognize yourself, I gently and respectfully ask that you not call, and I hope you understand why. We’ll probably just not work well together, and I wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money. Is that fair?

WHAT EXACTLY IS “REDEFINE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE” AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

Redefine your leadership style begins with understanding your current level of influence and leadership style and how it impacts you, your environment and performance as a result. It reveals the path you need to take to redefine yourself, where to focus to become the CEO of your clout and gain control over the odds getting the odds of your progression in your power.

Here’s what the Program gets you to do:

  1. Reassess who you know yourself to be, and other people’s perception of you.
    • (via self-assessment questionnaire and taking lots of notes)
  2. Distinguish your core values and beliefs running your leadership style.
    • (context identification, life conditions, environment assessment)
  3. Explore your mindset around decision making, trusting your gut and resiliency muscles.
  4. Deepen your awareness around the impact of your words and listening skills.
    • (Say what you mean, mean what you say. Understand and be understood)
  5. Sharpen how you carry yourself.
    • In the right context, 55% of communication is transmitted through body language.
  6. Take control of the image your project.
    • Your clothes do not define who you are, you are the one who define them.
  7. Increase your buy in when commanding the room, by regulating your speaking vs. listening with various audiences.
  8. Leverage your circle of influence, contribution and support.

I will say this again, you do not have to fit in or conform to feel you belong and move forward. As a matter of fact, many leaders feel like outliers.

You are smart, and the work I am doing is creating new communication channels for you that speak your language(s) because so far, it is your heart and your head that have done all the work.  This program will bring you beyond that, and you will be able to clearly see your next move(s).

DOES THIS REALLY WORK?

Yes! The result of our work is an approach to expanding your mindset into a “it could be me!” one, and get you into the next level in your leadership career, authentically and in style.

It works even if you do not have anyone reporting to you or simply aspire to be a better leader in general in your community.

“Working with Jennifer was transformative. I went from seeing my options shrink, to seeing them expand into dizzying new directions. She touched something deep inside my work and career that inspired me to drive harder into the next few decades! Honestly, I was originally dubious about career coaching. I’m now recommending her to everyone I know. Thank you, Jennifer, for helping me remember why I’m doing this.”

HOW QUICKLY CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?

That depends on your level of resistance to change and how confronting it seems to you.  No matter how much we are open to change, we all have things outside of our comfort zone in which possibility lives.  Some clients have a bigger comfort zone than others so they tend to progress quicker, but ultimately, YOUR pace is the perfect pace for you.  It also depends on where you are in your career, and the organizational culture you find yourself working for or with.

HOW CAN I GUARANTEE MYSELF THAT I WILL BE MORE INFLUENTIAL AND IMPACTFUL THAN I NEVER BEEN BEFORE?

Do the work, focus on your goals and be committed to your success.  Understand that this is a process, a proven one that works if you take actions and get out of your own way.  All my clients who have taken a closer look at all the dimensions influencing their leadership style, have successfully attracted more respect from others and developed a deeper appreciation of their own talent.  Even the confident ones!
